Although it would seem utterly impossible to measure and assess a purely subjective qualification such as ‘tasty’, the intelligent Flavour Analyser iFA can do this. iFA assesses the internal quality of the fruit.
A halogen light source is used for a measurement by means of iFA. The fruit is ‘X-rayed’ by the beam of light. On the basis of a spectrum analysis, a forecast is made with respect to brix value, internal brownness and core rot. This analysis gives an assessment of the entire piece of fruit instead of just a small part of it.
iFA is integrated in the sorting unit. All components of this system have been developed in-house, so that we need not rely on suppliers where service or continuity are concerned.
